About TOMO77:
Tomo77 is a Costa Rica-based artist whose work explores the complexities of human behavior, capitalism, and pop culture, drawing deeply from his immigrant experience. With 30 years of experience in graphic design and art, his pieces have been featured in prestigious exhibitions at La Luz de Jesus LA, Saatchi Gallery 1st London, One Grand Gallery PDX, Mortal Machine NOLA, Mirus SF, StolenSpace London, Haksart Versailles, and the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design Costa Rica. His work has also been highlighted in prominent publications like Hi-Fructose and Juxtapoz.
Collaborating with bands like Devo, Pearl Jam, Mike Doughty and artists like Shepard Fairey, Tomo77 brings a unique voice to each project. His pandemic art book, “Pandemonium,” serves as a graphic journal that captures the essence of a world in turmoil.
Tomo77’s work is a powerful commentary on the pressing issues of our time, demanding attention and reflection from all who encounter it. Through his art, he amplifies voices that need to be heard and stories that must be told.
Who gets to write our history?
And what does it look like when we illustrate who we are?
These questions have been fought over for millennia, and TOMO77 joins the ongoing battle with commanding style and conviction. TOM077 is a master of dualities, and it is in this tension that his art has the power to seduce, provoke, entrance, and agitate. He addresses current issues through the lens of age-old themes -power, control, conflict, worship, and sometimes even redemption.
TOMO77 displays an extraordinary visual duality as well: a command of traditional engraving aesthetics and historical symbolism fused with modern design and iconography.
TOM077's graphic allegories are thus delivered with such illustrative prowess that our societal struggles are starkly and unapologetically displayed and preserved. History is often written by the victors —not the victims— yet TOMO77's examination of our systems and values evokes the questions: How do we want society to work? What do we want our future to look like?

Nothing Forever Jonathan LeVine Projects | 2024
Jersey City, NJ, September 5, 2024 – Jonathan LeVine Projects proudly presents a digital exhibition titled, Nothing Forever, by Tomo77, exploring the temporal nature of life. The exhibition opens on Thursday, September 5, 2024, and runs through Thursday, September 26, 2024, at www.jonathanlevineprojects.com.
The idea that “nothing lasts forever” reminds us that everything in life, from pain and evil to tyrants and wars, is temporary. Life’s fleeting nature teaches us that change is constant and nothing remains the same. Throughout history, art has captured this reality; reflecting the shifts in human nature, power struggles and the ever-changing forces that shape our world.
Tomo77 utilizes a process he refers to as “hand digital etching.” This technique is similar to wood carving but is executed on an iPad. Creating a single piece can take weeks or even months, as he meticulously draws each line by hand at full scale, without the use of automation. The end result is a digital plate or a hand-drawn piece, reproduced only once on Aluminum Dibond in Germany. Tomo77 has spent more than four years perfecting this technique, crafting impactful artworks that are both stylish and visually striking. In addition to the monoprints, this exhibition also features four oil paintings, hand-painted on canvas.
Acclaimed artist, Shepard Fairey, describes Tomo77 as “a master of dualities” and says that “it is in this tension that his art has the power to seduce, provoke, entrance, and agitate”. In a similar way, this new body of work seeks to connect people with those less fortunate, fostering empathy and understanding of their struggles. It confronts humanity’s relentless pursuit of money and power, the apocalyptic signs of our times, the challenges of immigration, nuclear threats, and a world burdened by tyranny and conflict. In the end, nothing will last forever…

La Luz de Jesus Gallery Los Angeles “Pandemonium” | 2020
Pandemonium is graphic testimony to a year of uncertainty, uproar, and division.
Tomo77, a seasoned recorder of human behavior, capitalism, and social injustice, carries us from the earliest anxious days of the pandemic through more than a year of a society in the throes of political and social chaos.
Working from lockdown in his home perched above the streets of downtown Portland, Oregon, Tomo77 began documenting universal as well as his personal reactions to a period marked by isolation and confusion.
These aggregate expressions move us through the uncharted nature of a pandemic and lay bare the manifestation of our societal plagues: injustice, systemic racism and police brutality. At a time already ripe for collapse and transformation, we witness the uprising of maleficence, political corruption and xenophobic hate groups. While his prophetic style highlights the dangers of unchecked media consumption, abuse of power, and approaching environmental catastrophes, it also prompts us to imagine another way: Light in the darkness, healing and forgiveness amongst the abuse, and togetherness within the division.

WOXWOW Monochromatic 4 | 2021
WOW x WOW Gallery proudly presents Monochromagic 4, our fourth annual exhibition of monochrome artworks.
For centuries, artists have created monochrome images and sculptures. By limiting the colour palette to just one, the focus for the artist, and in turn the viewer, becomes more direct and encourages deeper contemplations and closer connections with the colour, form, texture and techniques of an artwork. The artists participating in this exhibition are all brought together through their affinity for monochromatic exploration and simultaneously via a shared passion for the language of surrealism and fantastical narratives. The absolutely intriguing monochrome wonders you will behold, have unfurled from truly masterful imaginations and are loaded with enigmatic and enchanting magic: ‘Monochromagic’.

Mortal Machine Gallery, “Once if Memory Serves Me” | 2021
Inspired by both French Poet Arthur Rimbaud’s “A Season In Hell” and Jung’s Definition of “The Shadow”. Rimbaud's self published masterpiece was an agonizing journey of excess and damnation that has influenced multiple generations. The Shadow, is the unknown side of ourselves which we are not fully conscious. This collection of works will explore these heavy contrasts and enigmatic themes. The perfect subject matter for the French Quarter, where excess and mystery mingle on a nightly basis. https://mortalmachinenola.com/collections/once-if-memory-serves-me-group-show

Fears, One Grand Gallery,Portland Oregon | 2019
“This show is the culmination of a year’s work. Part of my inspiration came from realizing that living in the United States, I had new fears that aligned with what I felt were collective fears unique to this country. The show is a testament to the fact that despite being deeply personal, fears are also widespread and cultural - from mass shootings to mass surveillance, nuclear war, racial profiling, environmental catastrophe, call-out culture, loss of love and belonging - how do we cope in an age of anxiety?

NøISE/Shepard Fairey/Tomo77/ 7” Limited edition Vinyl
“I have been friends with John Goff for 25 years. He was a fan of my art, and used to generously help me print. We often bonded over music from the Melvins, to Kraftwerk, to RUN-DMC. John has been a musician most of his life, playing in several different music projects over the years, including SSI which is a collaboration between John and his brother Will. When I started DJ’ing John would help me with the production of remixes. Eventually we started producing some music together, and with the valuable addition of Merritt Lear and Joe Cassidy, we formed NØISE (noiseprojectla). This 7” and print are based on a couple of NØISE remixes of select portions of SSI’s fourth album, Resurrectionem Ex-Mortuis. The lyrics are a response to social and political toxicity, symbolized by a tumultuous relationship. I love the combination of art and music, and it was great to collaborate with everyone, including @tomo7701 who did the 7” back cover art.”
